A Season of Performances by Martin City Melodrama at the Englewood Arts Center
We are excited to announce the partnership between Martin City Melodrama and Englewood Arts. Join the fun during the 2025/2026 season, featuring original productions by Martin City Melodrama at the Englewood Arts Center. Four productions of family comedies using local performers of all ages and pawformers from area shelters.

DATE NIGHT GLASSBLOWING EXPERIENCE
Looking for a creative date idea? How about making glass and a memory you both won’t soon forget? Englewood Arts offers this unique experience with wine and dessert included.
The evening starts with a sweet treat and short glass demo, then you can choose to each make an item or collaborate and make a larger item to take home and brag about to your friends.

ALAN VOSS
Learn the basics or continue your expertise with talented jazz musician Alan Voss. Whether you are just beginning, Intermediate, or Advanced, we offer a fun and welcoming learning environment for all ages.
Lessons offered for a variety of instruments, including guitar (acoustic and electric), bass guitar, piano (Beginning to Intermediate), drums, and music theory.

CREATIVE SPARK - SESSION 1: CLOUDBURSTS “OPENING THE DOOR TO CREATIVITY”
Grow your can-do attitude, enrich your solo-preneur mindset by slowing down and reflecting on what sparks your creativity?
Creative spark workshops allow you to sharpen and practice sharing your artistic journey. When people understand your vision, they can take part in it. This workshop series offers space to remember, reconnect, and reimagine your relationship with your creative side.

RALPH PEER DOCUMENTARY FILM SCREENING
Join us for the premiere of a new documentary film about the life and career of Ralph Peer, a famous music producer from Independence, MO. This new documentary, “Ralph Peer And The Rise of American Roots Music,” focuses on Peer’s legacy, starting with his work in his father’s gramophone repair shop in Independence.
This event will feature a special screening of the film, Q&A with the directors and producers, and a live music performance.

CLASS—OCTOBER 26
COLOR OF THE EARTH - JAPANESE MINERAL DYES ON FABRIC
Work with Artist Lisa-Ann Sugimoto for an introduction to ancient colors using Japanese mineral dye applications onto cloth using itajime shibori (clamp resist) and immersion dye techniques on white cotton fabric.
Students may also bring (optional) one pre-washed 100% cotton T-shirt to dye. This nontoxic, gentle, and sustainable dye product is imported from Japan.

THIRD FRIDAY RAKU FIRING PARTNERSHIP
Join us on our Third Friday Artwalk on 9/19 at 5:00 PM to experience Raku firing in partnership with 323 CLAY.
Raku is a firing process that shows pottery being taken out of the kiln at peak temperature and placed into a can with combustible material for reduction smoking effects.
Everyone is invited to participate at a low cost, with a provided ceramic piece, glaze and raku materials.

VINTAGE PAPER COVERED BOXES
(Adult Intermediate)Work with Artist Lisa Ann Sugimoto to create a set of seven vintage paper-covered boxes. This course will introduce several basic bookbinding techniques to expertly cover a set of papier mache boxes with vintage wrapping papers or Japanese newspapers.
All vintage materials are curated and sourced by the instructor. Complimentary tea and cookies served during class.

SARA BELLUM AND THE BRAINWAVES, AND SENTIMENTAL CREATURES
Sara Bellum and the Brainwaves are a vibrant 7-piece dance‑punk/indie‑punk outfit hailing from Kansas City, Missouri. Self-described as “hipsters and chaotic hippies making energetic indie rock,” they thrive on contagious rhythms and uplifting melodies .
Sentimental Creatures fuse gritty alt-rock with shades of post-punk and indie soul.

MIMBS MAKE AND TAKE - CERAMICS ART ACTIVITY
Join us Saturday, August 23rd, for a make-and-take class with local ceramic artist, Carolyn Mimbs.
Carolyn specializes in hand-made illustrative sculptures and wants to teach you some fun new skills. During this class, you will be creating and decorating a trinket dish or incense holder. You will learn how to use a slab roller and learn a fun and easy way to create multiple small dishes easily.
Come ready to learn and get your hands dirty!

You’ll learn from Lisa Ann Sugimoto, an artist, designer, and educator with a background in fiber arts and textile design.
